Qualification Overview

The award in First Aid at Work is aimed at individuals who wish to become First Aiders in the workplace under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. It is suitable for those already working or preparing to work in the industry.

This certificate is valid for 3 years. Candidates may take a 2-day Requalification Course if their certificate is still current, otherwise the full 3-day course must be retaken.


Pre-requisites

No formal prerequisites. Minimum Level 1 literacy or numeracy is advised.


Who is this qualification for?

This course is for learners who want to become first-aiders in the workplace. It aligns with training requirements for those whose employers have identified this level of need in a First Aid Needs Assessment.


How long will it take?

22 hours of learning typically over two days, with a minimum contact time of 18 hours.

  • Roles and responsibilities of a first aider
  • How to assess incidents
  • Recognising injury/illness symptoms
  • CPR and AED usage
  • Casualty assistance for chest injuries, spinal injuries, anaphylaxis

Assessment Method

Assessed through practical demonstration and multiple-choice theory test. 100% attendance and pass required.

HSE mandates assessments be conducted by assessors not involved in training. Max 12 delegates per course.
