How long will it take?

Day 1 & 2 cover Advance Control Tactics. Day 3 combines these with the Level 3 Award for Safe Use of Mechanical Restraints. Total time: 12 hours (8 hours guided learning).

Qualification Overview

This course is for learners already holding an SIA licence or working in civil enforcement/community safety. It expands knowledge on lawful use of handcuffs.

Entry Guidance

Learners must have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy/numeracy or equivalent. Suitable for learners aged 18+ with an SIA license. Evidence of prior conflict management and physical intervention is required.

Qualification Structure

Topics include:

• Counter-ambush tactics
• Tactical positioning (solo & team)
• Escorting procedures
• Legislation surrounding mechanical restraints
• Safe and effective handcuff use

Qualification Assessment

Assessment is done via internally marked workbook and practical evaluations, including scenario-based activities.

ID Requirements

Learners must show valid photo ID before assessment. Accepted IDs include:

• Formal passport-style ID
• Passport (any nationality)
• UK driving licence
• Employer, student, or travel ID
